What started as a passion project in 2001 when I was only 11 years old grew into a pretty big thing over time. Back in the day, I was a big fan of the The Sims franchise. This game allowed me to build houses for the first time. It was a revolutionary concept that shattered the norms of its time. A dream came true.
Now, more than 20 years later, I’m still managing Sims related websites. My latest big project is called DeSims4.com. This Dutch Sims fansite was established in 2013, just before the widely popular simulation game The Sims 4 was announced. Even though I run this website myself, I’ve never really been a serious gamer.
DeSims4.com quickly became one of the most visited Sims related websites in The Netherlands and Belgium, with over 40.000 monthly visitors at its peak. Besides the website, I also manage a Facebook Community with over 6.800 followers.
The main focus of DeSims4.com is to provide news, general information, tutorials, and other helpful content. Not only did I design the whole website and brand myself, but I also made almost all of the content myself. This includes texts, images, videos, and more. Some of the images and video materials are delivered by game publisher Electronic Arts, with whom I collaborate on a regular basis.
I did my internship at Electronic Arts Benelux back in 2011. Electronic Arts even invited me on a press trip to the US city of San Francisco, where I got to see an early version of a Sims-related game that was still being made. This was a fantastic experience!
The image below displays the most recent version of the DeSims4.com homepage. I gave the website a complete makeover in 2022. At the same time, the branding got a fresh new look as well. You can also find examples of this in the portfolio.
I am currently working on a follow-up website for DeSims4.com.
